What is Big Data and Why Its a Big Thing?

Big data means huge complex structured and unstructured data sets that are frequently produced and transmitted from a wide variety of sources. These attributes make up the three Vs of big data:

    1. Volume: The enormous data being stored.
    2. Velocity: The lightning speed at which data is analyzed and processed
    3. Variety: The different sources and forms from which data is collected

    Why is big data important?

Businesses use big data in their processes to enhance operations, provide improved customer service, develop marketing strategy and take other actions that, ultimately, can increase business sales. Businesses that use it strategically get a competitive edge at those who don’t use it because they’re able to make more data-based decisions.

Here are some more examples of how big data is used by organizations:

      • Big data uplifts oil and gas corporations in the energy sector by helping them locate suitable drilling sites and keep an eye on pipeline activity.
      • Big data platforms are used by financial services companies for risk management and in-the-moment market data analysis.
      • Big data is used by manufacturers and transportation firms to manage their supply networks and improve delivery routes.
      • Emergency response, crime prevention, and smart city program are further government uses.

    Benefits of big data:

Despite the numerous benefits of big data and analytics, there are still many untapped possibilities in the data world that remain to be explored. As businesses look to exploit the power of big data, there is a high demand for professionals with data analytical skills who can boost the organization as well as their careers.

    Ebi’s Work Shoes of Choice

Its a shoey day – and we just can’t be more thankful to our most comfy pair of work shoes. They are your best friend at work that not only keep your toes warm and relaxed but also look great. Ebi is fond of work shoes and she loves to keep her feet comfy. Ever since we came out of Covid, our style has more transitioned to wear something that makes us feel like home. From dressing formal to falling in love with casual, people who love to work know what makes them feel the more active.

New Balance 515 is one of Ebi’s top choice due to their reliability and softness while providing enough support to the heel and toe.

    Why would you love these?

    • Relaxed fit design for a roomy comfortable fit
    • Soft fabric lining, Memory Foam full length cushioned footbed
    • Shock absorbing supportive midsole

When you’re on your feet for extended periods of time, it’s critical to wear the correct shoe. A well-fitting shoe is an important element of it. Work shoes are designed primarily for all-day wear over a long day or shift and must be made of excellent materials recognized for durability and endurance. When it comes to purchasing business shoes, all of the phrases, codes, and logos might be quite complicated. It all relies on the user’s industry’s requirements. Professional work shoes serve an important role in ensuring the health and safety of any workplace.

DDS Strategy for Business Continuity During COVID-19 Crisis

Recently we have been strategizing at DDS for business continuity during the COVID-19 crisis and we wanted to share our thoughts on this strategy. At DDS we try to look at the COVID-19 crisis as an opportunity for newness and we see technology as the answer to all of our new reality of business continuity. We ask ourselves, how can we solve the challenges we are facing with COVID-19 with technology? We ask ourselves what tools do me and my employees have at our fingertips that we can use to continue our operations from home if possible and when we have to go to the office, how can we keep our distance?

Above all, we take the COVID-19 crisis seriously. We do everything you can do to keep social distance; take turns going into the office if you share one, keep the 6 feet of distance if you have to be in the same room, wear face masks, wash hands regularly, wipe surfaces and more. (more suggestions at our blog on how we care about your wellbeing)

Finally, we stay positive. Here’s two quotes I find so pertinent recently during the COVID-19 crisis.

    1. The first my 9-year-old son reminded me about – “The best way to predict the future is to create it.” This quote is credited to both Abraham Lincoln and Peter Drucker, two people known for their word of wisdom and lessons to live by.
    2. “Take the first step in faith. You don’t have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step.” A quote from Martin Luther King Jr. I would add, take each next step in faith too, and to quote more children’s themes, as the ‘Frozen II’ song says, do the “Next Right Thing”. Another movie I rave about which highlights the importance of taking the next right step is ‘Harriet’; a must see. Harriet never knew what would happen several steps down the line in her effort to free slaves and she always trusted God for the next step to be revealed to her.

So, at DDS, we try not to be afraid, we go boldly to take the next step, creating the future we want for our business, our families, and our community through our positive thoughts and targeted actions.

Peace and blessings from all of us working through this with you at DDS.

DDS Honors National Disability Employment Awareness Month 2022

It’s finally here! On October 1, National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) began! What are you doing to celebrate? NDEAM, which is held every October, is an appropriate opportunity to educate about disability employment challenges and to recognize the numerous and varied accomplishments of America’s workers with disabilities. The Americans with Disabilities Act enshrined the promise of equal opportunity for those who worked hard 31 years ago, and in the years following, Americans with disabilities have achieved amazing heights.

“Being disabled should not mean being disqualified from having access to every aspect of life.”

    — Emma Thompson

Only with inclusion and big heart, great heights of success can be achieved. America is diverse country which respects people from all walk of life, here opportunities are provided equally to everyone and this month marks the importance of inclusion to a next level. People who face disability often are left from the right of employment which is a basic right for all of us. Our President, Ebitari Larsen considers this a good time to share her own experience. Being a person of great stature and ambitions she believes any kind of disability whether emotional or physical should not hamper someone’s right to get employed.

A workforce that includes people with disabilities is essential for achieving broad-based economic growth across the world. Persons with disabilities can fully contribute to an organization’s mission in an accessible workplace with solid accessibility policy. Despite our achievements throughout the years, our job is far from done. Increasing disability inclusion requires all of us, not just employees with disabilities. It is critical to our national security and shared prosperity.

    Ebitari’s Thanksgiving Holiday 2020 Message

    Ebitari’s November Pandemic Message

Good day to all our newsletter readers,

This is Delta Data Services last newsletter of the year. We send it our around Thanksgiving time and use it as an opportunity to thank all our present and past clients, vendors and supporters. Thank you for being an important part of our community. We are indebted and grateful.

Well, it looks like 2020 will be known as the year of the COVID-19 pandemic. We’ve spent most of the year adjusting to this new reality. With many of the adjustments to the pandemic expected to stick as best practices after the pandemic is over, others are calling it the new normal.

While there is much cause for hope with two vaccines developed, these vaccines will not be in distribution to the general population for a few more months. Some states, like California, are shutting down again as there is in a increase in cases in the state due to the Halloween holiday. Close to home in Long Beach, residents are stocking up on supplies again in expectation of a second wave of restrictions.

As we go into the Thanksgiving holiday it is looking a lot different than it has in the past. Some of us are not seeing the family we are used to spending time with. Many of us will be staying close to home and battening down the hatches, maybe watching lots of movies, reading books and listening to music as a family. Whatever this time of year looks like for you, please remember it is an important holiday; perhaps one of the most important of the year. This is because, regardless of religious or spiritual inclination, we can all agree that gratitude is important.

I love what Oprah Winfrey has to say about gratitude that ‘what you focus on expands’. She was saying that if we focus on what we are grateful for, then that will expand. I aim to see what there is to be grateful for in my life all the time; just waking up to a new day is a humongous blessing as is every breath.

I like to recall this quote from Konrad von Gesner:

    Let there be

    for every

    pulse

    a thanksgiving

    and for

    every breath

    a song

Here’s wishing you an enjoyable Thanksgiving holiday no matter what it looks like. At Delta Data Services, we are thinking of and praying for you.

Ebitari’s September 2020 Message During the COVID-19 Pandemic

This September, remembering the tragic, heinous and horrific events of September 11, 2001 is especially poignant now with the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic. Young people, like my 9 year old son, were not born during the September 11th attack on US soil. To children like him, the COVID-19 pandemic is the biggest incident in his memory that has so greatly impacted his life.

For those of us who were around during the attacks of 9/11, however, the events are indelibly burned onto our memories – images too graphic to reiterate, horror too great. It is with this in mind that we at Delta Data Services want to remember all those who are families of or were directly impacted by the attacks of 9/11. Like you, we will never forget. We hold you and your loved ones in our prayers and great consideration.

So too, the pandemic ravages on. Its been six (6) months since I first wrote my pandemic message back in March. I saw a chalk drawing on a neighbors sidewalk that suggested things would be back to normal soon. I also saw this photo from the New York Times article titled ‘In China, Where the Pandemic Began, Things are starting to Look … Normal‘. I find the photo from the article below sort of mind blowing given what we are living through in the US right now; masks and social distancing procedures are being implemented everywhere. Also, the news suggests that a vaccine is near. It’s sort of hard to believe that we’ll ever be back to normal and we will.

What I can say is that I feel for those who have lost loved ones in this horrific pandemic. The Mayor of our beloved Long Beach, Mayor Robert Garcia, has lost both his mom and dad in the last month and within a week of each other due to complications associated to COVID-19. Our deep condolences and prayers are with his family and all others similarly impacted.

In the same way, each day, I awaken and thank God for health and well being. I pray for a vaccine soon. I pray the pandemic will be over soon and that we will keep many valuable lessons we have learned from this experience. Keep looking out for and being the ‘helpers’. Keep being positive and stay strong.

    Praying for us all,

    Ebitari (Ebi) Larsen
